The Department of Biomaterials has succeeded in attracting considerable funding and acknowledgement over the last ten years with a cumulative budget of 15 million Euros. The department has coordinated several EU and nationally founded projects on various type of applications from novel bone grafts, implant surface coatings, debridement strategies for infected implants, dental membranes, degradable metals, biomolecules for improved bone healing, soft tissue grafts and others. 

Håvard Haugen was the key note speaker at the Deutschen Gesellschaft für Biomaterialien (German Society for Biomaterials) annual confrence. 

After a long wait, the sun is shining on us again and our lab is getting back to more or less normal activity over the summer.

Manuel Schweikle was awarded His Majesty the King's Gold Medal for his outstanding PhD thesis focusing on developing mineralised hydrogels for regenerating bone tissue around dental implants. 

Usame Sevgi from Dicle University in Turkey joined our group for three months, bringing along some Turkish delight and an healthy appetite for science.

Dyala Bakir's master thesis on polyphenolic nanocoatings for dental implants won this year's best master thesis award at the Faculty of Dentistry. Well done, Dyala!
