The oral cavity is a port of entry to the digestive and respiratory tracts, forming part of the aerodigestive tract. Different sites in the aerodigestive tract are characterized by specific microbiomes, which despite differences in composition, share several of the same microbial inhabitants. Among these, are microorganisms with relevance to oral and respiratory health and disease.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the largest threats to human health. To achieve effective responses in tackling the crisis of AMR, collaborative, multidisciplinary efforts of educators, researchers, policy-makers, practitioners and other stakeholders are called upon.

Professor Fernanda Petersens forskergruppe ved Institutt for oral biologi (IOB) er nettopp tildelt åtte millioner kroner fra Forskningsrådet for å forske på antibiotikaresistens hos premature barn.

Munnhulen og nesehulen danner sammen inngangen til fordøyelseskanalen og luftveiene. Disse miljøene har både spesifikke og felles mikrober. Her finnes det bakterier som kan føre til sykdommer i munnen, luftveiene og andre deler av kroppen, spesielt når balansen i det normale mikrobielle samfunnet blir forstyrret.

Antimikrobiell resistens (AMR) er en av de største truslene mot menneskers helse. For å oppnå effektive løsninger for å takle AMR-krisen, kreves det tverrfaglig innsats i akademia blant forskere i samarbeid med beslutningstakere, legepersonell og andre stakeholdere.
