Guest lecture Professor Georgios Belibasakis

In vitro models of periodontal pathogenesis and their clinical relevance.

Professor Georgios Belibasakis studied Dentistry at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and acquired a PhD degree in Oral Microbiology at the Umeå University. He specialized in Periodontology at the Queen Mary University of London and attained his Habilitation in Oral Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Zurich. He is currently a Professor and Head of the Department of Oral Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Zurich.

Professor Belibasakis’ research comprises the etiopathogenesis of periodontal, peri-implant and peri-apical diseases, by means of laboratory and clinical studies. His studies involve the use of organotypic host-biofilm interaction models and the application of high-throughput technologies for deciphering inflammatory pathways and identifying host and microbial biomarkers of the studied diseases.
