Dr. Laura Jiménez Ortega's main research areas are perception (visual, pain, and subliminal language perception), cognitive processes (language comprehension, emotions, and social presence), and psychological factors affecting health. As part of this, she has worked with the role of psychological factors on chronic pain illnesses (migraine, temporomandibular disorders, burning mouth syndrome) and oral health (bruxism). Recently she has focused on integrating perception, cognitive processing, and oral health fields, and revealed that the way the clinician gives instructions/explanations significantly affects pain perception. This field provides both clinical evidence about the importance of psychological factors and communication on health and valuable hints for prevention.

Dr Laura Jiménez Ortega is associate professor at the Psychobiology & Methodology in Behavioural Science Department at the Faculty of Dentistry, University Complutense of Madrid. She has a master's degree in psychology and a PhD in Neuroscience.

From the 12th to the 16th of February Dr Ortega is visiting the Department of Paediatric Dentistry, Behavioural Science and Forensic Dentistry, Institute of Clinical Dentistry.
