“Manages how” – an innovative construct to close the clinical transition gap

The presentation demonstrates an innovative construct to support curriculum design, learning and assessment as well as how to support students' transition to clinical practice for better patient outcomes.

Figure: Manages howThis novel domain is "Manages how" and is integrated into a modified Millers' Pyramid for teaching, learning and assessment.

"Manages how" is used to support students' higher-order thinking skills such as knowledge application, diagnosis, communication, problem-solving and clinical decision making etc. which will enhance students’ preparedness, confidence and skills performance as they transition to clinical care.

“Manages how” allows students to learn cognitive skills through specific pedagogies that are contextually based and logically structured. These will better prepare and support students' transition and performance in clinical practice.
