EMBO Young Investigator Programme

Through the Young Investigator Programme, EMBO supports talented young researchers in the life sciences. It offers financial and practical support, as well as a network of more than 600 young scientists.

The EMBO Young Investigator Programme is designed to meet the specific needs of junior group leaders setting up their first independent laboratories. The programme aims to:

  • highlight some of the best young group leaders in Europe;
  • create a mutual support network among the next generation of scientific leaders in Europe;
  • help Young Investigators realize their potential as world-class researchers.
  • The programme selects around 20 EMBO Young Investigators annually and provides support and networking opportunities during a critical stage of their career.

Eligibility

Candidates applying to become a Young Investigator must:

  • Have been an independent group leader for at least one year at the pre-application deadline and for less than four years in the year of application. Leave of absence may extend the eligibility window.
  • Have an excellent track record.
  • Carry out research in the life sciences
  • Have obtained sufficient funding to run their laboratory.
  • Applicants must have published at least one senior author research paper

Funding

EMBO Young Investigators receive a financial award of 15,000 euros in their second year. They can also apply for additional small grants of up to 10,000 euros per year.
