Each year, the Centre for Advanced Study (CAS) hosts three research groups working within and across the following fields:
- Humanities/Theology
- Social sciences/Law
- Natural sciences/Medicine/Mathematics
The research groups stay at CAS, situated at the stately premises of The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters in Oslo, for one academic year. Each project can receive a grant of roughly NOK 3.5 million.
Who can apply?
All faculty members who hold permanent, full-time, tenured academic positions at CAS' partner institutions (including UiO) in Norway are eligible to submit a project proposal and assemble and lead the corresponding research group at CAS.
Project leaders can invite prominent researchers from around the world to participate in their projects
What will be funded?
- Group leaders assemble their Research teams from among national and international colleagues for the purpose of one year’s close collaboration at the Centre in Oslo.
- Scholars holding a permanent post at one of the Centre’s partner institutions are granted an extraordinary research sabbatical for the period in which they work at CAS.
- Group leaders receive NOK 3.5 million at the disposal of the research group. CAS offers a unique research infrastructure and service platform, including apartments for the use of travelling researchers, event support and IT and library services.
