Funds for innovation (verification) 2020

UiO has set aside 5 million NOK in 2020 for early phase support for innovation projects (verification)  aimed for a speedy start-up. This includes also innovation projects within social innovation.

An upper limit for allocations has been fixed at NOK 500 000 per project, preferably between NOK 200 000 and NOK 500 000 per project. Applications can be made for funds covering up to 12 months of activity for the verification project. The funds should be used for project progress items such as:

  • Obtaining/paying for third party competency
  • Materials and equipment
  • Salaries for necessary sub-projects

Projects which have previously received verification funds may be awarded funds on the basis of a renewed justification.

The application will be reviewed by a committee consisting of internal and external professionals. The committee will evaluate the applications on the background of information provided in the application form, interdisciplinarity and allocate funds that reflects the range of research fields at the UiO. The University Director will make the final decision within November 2020 based upon the recommendations from the committee.

Evaluation criteria for the applications

The funds should primarily be used for «proof-of-concept». The following evaluation criteria are set forth for the evaluation of the application:

  • Rate of innovation
    • How significant is the innovation as compared to the «state-of-the-art»
    • Whether it is an innovation only for the project partners or also nationally and/or internationally as well.
  • Societal benefit, primarily in the form of products, services or improvements
  • Feasibility

Who may apply?

The project leader must be employed at the UiO with a project directed by the UiO. Cooperative constellations in the project may appear as participation by Nordic and international partners, industry and other environments of competence.

Requirements for approval

The project must have been submitted to the head of department for accept.

Reporting

For projects that will be receive grant, simple reporting including milestone description and a review of which plans the project leader has for further exploitation of the results will be required.
