Odontogenic tumors in the Nordic countries

Odontogenic tumors originate in tooth-forming tissues. The dentist often discovers the tumors because they are usually found in the jawbones.

Background

Updated and comprehensive epidemiological data on odontogenic tumors is unavailable for Nordic countries. Realizing this need, this joint scientific project aimed to examine epidemiological and demographical data on odontogenic tumors in Nordic countries. Moreover, a joint project like this is expected to make the umbrella organization of oral pathologists in Nordic countries (Scandinavian Fellowship for Oral Pathology and Medicine, SFOPOM) and the research efforts of its members more visible in the global oral pathology community. The result of the study will be valuable for future teaching of dental and dental hygienist students as well as for applications for research funding.

Aims

This study aims to retrospectively examine the incidence and clinical characteristics of various odontogenic tumors over 10 years (2010-2019) in SFOPOM-associated archives/laboratories.
