Minisymposium: MicroRNAs and cellular development

In relation to cand. scient Cuong Khuu´s doctoral defense the 1. and 2. opponent will give guest lectures related to their field of research.

Program:

14.00:   Introduction by professor emeritus Harald Osmundsen, Department for Oral Biology.

14.05:   MicroRNA in skin wound healing

Lecture by Ning Xu Landén, MD PhD, Karolinska Institutet, Department of Medicine, Unit of Dermatology and Venereology, Stockholm.

15.00The role of fibroblasts on tumor progression

Lecture by Professor Daniela-Elena Costea, Gade Laboratory for Pathology, Department of Clinical Medicine Haukeland University Hospital and University of Bergen.

16.00:   Closure

Ning Xu Landén

Assistant professor Ning Xu Landén.

1. opponent, Associate Professor Ning Xu Landén works in the Unit of Dermatology and Venereology at Karolinska Insitutet, Department of Medicine, Stockholm.

Landén describes the goal of her research on non-coding RNAs in human skin wound healing as developing novel RNA-based treatments to improve healing of human skin wounds.

Check out how Landén herself presents her research on microRNAs in skin wound healing in this Youtube-video.

You can also take a look at her Plos one-publication: MicroRNA-31 Is Overexpressed in Cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Regulates Cell Motility and Colony Formation Ability of Tumor Cells.

Daniela-Elena Costea

Professor Daniela-Elena Costea.

2. opponent, Professor Daniela-Elena Costea's  main research interests lie within the field of tumour biology, particularly of oral carcinogenesis, focusing on the role of normal neighbouring cells on the invasive and self renewal properties of oral cancer cells.

Currently, she is also involved in research projects focusing on cell-to-cell interactions in normal human oral tissues as well, and between human cells and periodontal bacterial cells.
