Victor A. Jankowski's master thesis on polyphenolic nanocoatings for dental implants won this year's best master thesis award at the Faculty of Dentistry. Well done, Victor!

Manuel Schweikle was awarded His Majesty the King's Gold Medal for his outstanding PhD thesis focusing on developing mineralised hydrogels for regenerating bone tissue around dental implants. 

Usame Sevgi from Dicle University in Turkey joined our group for three months, bringing along some Turkish delight and an healthy appetite for science.

Dipl.ing. Christiane Petzold will defend her thesis UV-induced functionalization of titanium surfaces with a polyunsaturated fatty acid for improved performance of temporary bone fixation devices.

Last week we organized the 16th  Scandinavian Society for Biomaterials (ScSB). annual conference held in the beautiful town of Røros together with Norges teknisk-naturvitenskapelige universitet (NTNU) . Our lab participated by presenting eight posters and two rapid-fire presentations from our esteemed members.

The department joins the Baltic sea network for biomaterial composites (BASENETBICO ).

The first ever Biomaterials in Oslo alumni day will be organised on 24th October! the alumni day will kick-start with a lunch at the Department of Biomaterials. The lunch will be followed by a half-day seminar with talks from both the department and the returning alumni.

The alumni seminar will be held in Auditorium 2, IKO.

In a new opinion paper, researchers from the Department and consortium members of the EU-funded BIOMATDB project have delved into the complex world of biocompatibility, shedding light on the challenges and proposing a comprehensive new definition that could revolutionise the field. This research, recently published in 'Trends in Biotechnology', is poised to advance biomaterials science and its applications in medicine and dentistry.

Javier Sanz Esporrin from Complutense University of Madrid joined our group for three months to learn more about micro- and nanoCT imaging.

After a long wait, the borders opened this summer and we were able to welcome Erasmus students at our lab again. This summer, the biomaterials lab was taken over by our French summer interns.
