Paediatric Dentistry, Behavioural Science and Forensic Dentistry

The department covers the topics paediatric dentistry, behavioural science and forensic dentistry. 

Paediatric Dentistry

Paediatric dentistry covers the range of odontological disciplines applied and adapted to growing and developing individuals, defined as children and adolescents between 0 and 18 years. 

In respect of this age group, the department is responsible for research, teaching and dissemination within the following areas: cariology, dental development disorders, dental traumatology, endodontics, oral surgery and oral medicine, periodontal diseases, fear and pain control, ethics in dental treatment and paediatrics.

Basic training in paediatric dentistry is given in the 9th and 10th semesters. It covers theoretical, propaedeutic, outpatient and clinical activities including the use of pharmacological and psychological methods in the treatment of fear and treatment anxieties in children.

The department is also responsible for running a three-year postgraduate program for dentists to become specialists in paediatric dentistry.

Behavioural Science

Behavioural science covers the topics patient communication, own behaviour as a health professional in addition to anxiety and fear for dental treatment. Basic training on these topics are included throughout the whole dental curriculum and includes both children, adolescents and adults. 

Forensic Dentistry

Forensic dentistry includes information on how dental knowledge can be used in the service of the court and society. Regulations and laws for dental personnel and ethical considerations in dental treatment are topics that are taught.
