Guest lectures by Mano and Layrolle

Our department invited two renown biomaterials scientists João F. Mano and Pierre Layrolle to present some of their latest research work and to discuss potential collaborative research projects.

Pierre Layrolle and S. Petter Lyngstadaas  engaged in discussion with the audience following professor Layrolle's lecture on cell-based bone tissue regeneration.

João F. Mano from 3B's research group at University of Minho in Portugal presented some of his groups research work on natural-derived nanobiomaterials and how such materials can be used in tissue engineering, especially in encapsulating cell and biomolecules within microbeads composed of hydrogel and polyelectrolyte multilayers.

Following Mano's lecture on cell encapsulation techniques, Pierre Layrolle from University of Nantes in France, who's the coordinator of the REBORNE research project that has also made the news in Norway, continued with a presentation focussing on the use of human stem cells in regeneration of large bone defects.
