Clinical associate professor Axel Spahr from University of Sydney visited our department in connection to the PhD defence of Oscar Villa and shared some of his clinical knowledge and expertise on peri-implantitis with researcher at the Institute of Clinical Dentistry from both clinical and biomaterials backgrounds.
Dr Spahr is the Head of Periodontics both at the University of Sydney and Sydney Dental Hospital. In his talk, Axel gave as a comprehensive summary of the long-term clinical success of dental implants, clinical treatment of infected dental implants, and the importance of considering dental implants as replacement of missing teeth rather than a treatment option for infected teeth or advanced periodontal disease.
