SCSB conference at Røros

Last week we organized the 16th  Scandinavian Society for Biomaterials (ScSB). annual conference held in the beautiful town of Røros together with Norges teknisk-naturvitenskapelige universitet (NTNU) . Our lab participated by presenting eight posters and two rapid-fire presentations from our esteemed members.

The BIOMAT group was well represented at the SCSB meeting this year.

Last week, the 16th Scandinavian Society for Biomaterials (ScSB) meeting was successfully organized in the picturesque town of Røros, Norway, from 21-24 March 2023. The conference was held in collaboration with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). We are proud to announce that our lab members actively participated in the event, presenting eight posters and two rapid-fire presentations. A heartfelt thank you to Hanna Tiainen, Enrique Oreja Remartínez, Agnieszka Rogala, Angela De Lauretis, Jana Hlinkova, Øystein Øvrebø, Lya Piaia, Torben Hildebrand, Daria Zaytseva-Zotova, Alejandro Barrantes, Qianli Ma, and Håvard J Haugen for their invaluable contributions.

We are also thrilled to have our very own Hanna Tiainen as the new ScSB president, marking the second time our group has held the presidency!

The ScSB 2023 conference took place at the Røros Hotell, in the heart of the UNESCO world heritage site of Røros, an old copper mining town near Trondheim. The scientific program for the conference revolved around the theme of bioinspiration in biomaterials, exploring how biomaterial scientists mimic nature to comprehend fundamental cell-material interactions and develop biomaterial-based therapies.

In addition to the scientific sessions, the meeting provided ample opportunities for networking and socializing in a relaxed setting. The conference aimed to create an environment that fosters interaction between students, young investigators, and experienced scientists. Exciting after-lunch social activities, including guided tours of Røros, cross-country skiing, and dog sledging, were organized to rejuvenate participants for future challenges in biomaterials.

We are grateful to our keynote speakers, sponsors, collaborators, and all the new ScSB family members for their support and contributions. A special thanks to the organizing team in Norway for their warm hospitality and for making the meeting memorable.

Save the date for our next ScSB meeting in Denmark: 23-26 April 2024. Visit the ScSB website at https://scsb.eu/ for more information.

We look forward to seeing you all in Denmark!

Thank you to the Research Council of Norway for their generous support.
