The department's main responsibilities are to oversee operation of the Bachelor of Dental Hygiene, and to focus on the research and dissemination of information related to the dental hygiene field.

Bachelor of Dental Hygiene

The department has a primary responsibility organising the curriculum and teaching plan for the Bachelor of Dental Hygiene.

The program admits approximately 30 students each year. The study programme lasts 3 years and provides students with a Bachelor of Dental Hygiene degree, qualifying them for authorization as a dental hygienist in Norway.

Bachelor of Dental Hygiene students receive teaching and clinical guidance from competent teachers and supervisors, both on campus and during external clinical placement. Public health has a central role in the study programme. The Bachelor of Dental Hygiene also draws upon expertise from the faculty's other subject areas within oral biology and clinical dentistry.
