Waste management

In general about waste:

  • The groups are responsible for discarding all types of packaging when goods are received.
  • Empty cartons and the like must not be placed in corridors or storage rooms.

Hazardous waste and chemical waste:

  • Applies to: Chemicals, laboratory waste including bacteria, cells, blood, agar dishes with biological factors, stinging, cutting objects, glass, etc.
  • The main renovator is Norsk Gjenvinning, norskjendvinning.no
  • Contact information at Norsk Gjenvinning: All communication regarding an agreement on collection / emptying of waste or containers must be directed to ng.oslo@ngn.no. All agreements must be made via e-mail for better tracking and communication. Norsk Gjenvinning also has a customer service tel. 987 09700 if there is a need for rapid assistance.
  • Contact person for hazardous waste and medical waste is Hanne Carine Solheim, Hanne.Carine.Solheim@ngn.no
  • Declaration: All hazardous waste must be declared before it is collected by the supplier.

Declaration is made on avfallsdeklarering.no

  • Report deviations on the supplier's services:

If the supplier violates the content of the agreement, this must be reported as a deviation to innkjøp@eiendom.uio.no

Local procedures for hazardous waste:

  • IOB contact: HSE coordinator
  • It is everyone's responsibility to ensure that hazardous waste is handled correctly.
  • Packed in yellow hazardous waste boxes and placed in room A1.M022 Hazardous waste room.
  • The last person to fill the box with hazardous waste must close the box securely and place it in room A1.M022. New box should be in place.
  • Collection is done under the auspices of UiO, by Norsk Gjenvinning.
  • Packaging is replenished by Norsk Gjenvinning.

Local procedures for chemical waste:

  • IOB contact: Ann-Kristin Ruus, dupty: Solveig Stig.
  • To find out if your waste should be classified as hazardous waste, read the safety data sheet. The safety data sheet provides information on the hazardous properties of the chemical (see Hazard symbols), whether protective equipment is required and how to handle the waste. More information is available at: www.ecoonline.no
  • Declaration: Chemical waste must be declared before it is collected by the supplier.

               Declaration is made at avfallsdeklarering.no.

  • Containers with chemicals must be placed in approved packaging boxes or from Norsk Gjenvinning and placed in room A1.M022, Hazardous waste.
  • Absorption mats must be placed between the containers in the packaging box.
  • Chemicals of the same type must be in the same packaging box, i.e. one for acids, one for bases, one for solvents, etc. (see separate form).
  • Use original packaging if the quantities do not become too large.
  • A separate label is filled in and glued to the return jug. It must state, among other things, the waste material number and EAL code. The label and waste guide book can be found at Ann-Kristin Ruus or Emnet.
  • Collection is done under the auspices of UiO Norsk Gjenvinning. Ordered by the IOB connector.

  • If someone applies for and is granted permission to use other isotopes, it may be relevant to introduce special procedures for these.

Radioactive waste management:

  • Below 10 Bq: Radioactive waste is disposed of with normal hazardous waste or can be delivered to room A1.U019A in the basement. Contact HSE-coordinator for help.
  • Over 10 Bq: - Radioactive waste must be delivered to the Department of Energy Technology (IFE).

Glass:

  • Each individual who has waste of this type is responsible for handling this.
